How to print your fall word search

How this fall puzzle is generated

This page builds the fall puzzle automatically as soon as it loads, using the tool's default settings: a 12 × 12 grid (144 cells) at Medium difficulty. Medium hides words in 4 of the generator's 8 possible compass directions — left-to-right, top-to-bottom, and the two forward diagonals (down-right and up-right). Use the controls above to switch to Hard, which adds backwards left-to-right, backwards top-to-bottom, and both backward diagonals, or Easy, which restricts the puzzle to just left-to-right and top-to-bottom.

Worked example, this word list: the 15 fall words range from APPLE at 5 letters up to SCARECROW at 9 letters — 101 letters in total. The generator places words longest-first, so SCARECROW is fitted to the grid before any shorter word competes for space, and the 144-cell grid still has at least 43 cells left over for random A–Z filler letters, even before accounting for any two words that happen to cross on a shared letter.

How many words are hidden in the fall puzzle?

The puzzle contains 15 fall-themed words — 101 letters in total, from APPLE (5 letters) to SCARECROW (9 letters). A word longer than the chosen grid can't be placed at all — for example, any word over 10 letters is automatically skipped on the smallest 10 × 10 grid — and even a word that fits can occasionally be skipped if the grid fills up before it finds room. Either way, the on-screen "Couldn't fit" notice tells you exactly which word was left out, so switching to the 12 × 12 or 15 × 15 grid is the fix.

Can I make it easier or harder?

Yes. Easy mode hides words only across (left-to-right) and down — ideal if you want a relaxed solve. Medium adds diagonals. Hard adds backwards words too. You can also choose a 10 × 10, 12 × 12, or 15 × 15 grid size to control the challenge.
